I need to be honest about something, because I know I'm not the only wife who has felt it.
Somewhere in the last ten years, my husband went quiet. Not sad, exactly. Just… dimmer. The jokes got rarer. The early nights got earlier. And that spark between us — the one I married him for — felt like something we had agreed, without ever saying it out loud, to stop mentioning.
I told myself what every wife tells herself: this is just what 60 looks like.
Then, about three weeks ago, something changed. He was up before me. He was whistling in the kitchen — whistling — like he used to on fishing mornings. That week he took my hand at the grocery store like we were dating. And when I finally asked him straight out what had gotten into him, he laughed and showed me the strange thing he'd been doing every day — something he read in an article online, of all places, involving an old-fashioned gelatin trick I'd never heard of in my life.
I'm not a doctor and I'm not selling anything. I'm just a wife who got a piece of her husband back — his energy, his confidence, that light in his eyes — and I think the men (and honestly, the wives) who are quietly living what we were living deserve to at least see what he saw.
